Ceiling Soundproofing

Double Ceiling Solution

This is an excellent ceiling soundproofing solution that will provide optimum levels of soundproofing for both airborne and impact noise. It involves the following steps:

  • take down the existing ceiling
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2x2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • attach resilient bars to the baton
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

Combined Ceiling Solution

This solution is perfect for the times when taking the existing ceiling down is not viable or desired, and it provides a very good level of noise reduction in impact as well as airborne noise. It involves the following steps:

  • locate the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2x2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • attach resilient bars to the baton
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

Hangers Type C Solution

This solution is very good at reducing both impact and airborne noise and it is the perfect option when wanting to keep the existing ceiling and minimise the height loss. Total height loss 7cm.

  • locate the existing ceiling joists
  • fix hangers type C to the joists
  • insert 2x2 batons through the hangers
  • add a layer of 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the batons
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the batons
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

18+ db reduction in airborne noise
17 db reduction in impact noise

Resilient Bars Solution

This is a solution that can be used when space is at a premium, and the height of the ceiling cannot be dropped by much more. Total height loss 3cm.

  • take down the existing ceiling
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60) between the existing ceiling joists
  • attach resilient bars to the existing joists
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

16 + db reduction in airborne noise
15 db reduction in impact noise

Independent Ceiling Solution

This has proved to be one of the best solutions for both airborne and impact noise. Total height loss 17cm.

  • build a frame around the existing walls using 2x4 batons
  • insert 100mm high density acoustic mineral wool(RS60)between the new joists
  • fix new joists to the frame using 2x4 batons
  • attach resilient bars to the new joists
  • fix a layer of 19mm high density Soundplank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all plasterboard joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach a final layer of 12.5mm Soundshield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

24+ db reduction in airborne noise
25+ db reduction in impact noise

Wall Soundproofing

Independent Wall Solution

This is the best solution for eliminating airborne and vibration noise. Total space loss 11cm.

  • build a frame from the floor to the ceiling adjacent to the existing wall using 2x2 batons, with a minimum gap of 1.5cm between the 2 walls
  • insert 50mm high density acoustic mineral wool (RS60) between the batons
  • fix resilient bars to the frame
  • attach 19mm sound plank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach final layer of 12.5mm of sound shield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

26 db noise reduction

Resilient Bars Solution

This is a very effective solution with less space loss. Total space loss 9cm.

  • attach new joists to the existing wall using 2x2 batons,
  • insert high density acoustic mineral wool (RS60) between the batons
  • fix resilient bars to the frame
  • attach 19mm sound plank plasterboard to the resilient bars
  • seal all joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach final layer of 12.5mm of sound shield plasterboard
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

20 db noise reduction

M20 Panels Solution

This solution can be used when space is at a premium as it involves the minimum space loss. Total space loss 5cm.

  • attach M20 panels to the existing wall using special strong grip adhesive
  • seal all joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach 15mm sound shield plasterboard.
  • seal all joints with acoustic mastic
  • attach final layer of 15mm sound shield plasterboard.
  • plaster finish to the soundproofed area

19 db noise reduction.

Floor Soundproofing

High density AMW and Sound Plasterboards Solution

This solution proves very effective where airborne noise is the main issue. As all the works goes underneath of the floorboards, there is no rise in the level of the floors after the soundproofing has been done.

  • lift up the existing floorboards.
  • fill the cavity between the joists with high density acoustic mineral wool 100mm (RS60)
  • attach batons on the side of the joists which act as support for the plasterboards.
  • cut to size and fit 19mm soundplank plasterboard
  • cut to size and fit 12.5mm soundshield plasterboard
  • seal all joints with acoustic mastic
  • re-lay the floorboards back.

20db reduction in airborne noise*
4db reduction in impact noise*

High Density AMW and Acoustic Membrane Solution

This is a solution that offers a budget alternative in cases where airborne noise is the main issue.

  • lift up the existing floorboards.
  • fill the cavity between the joists with high density acoustic mineral wool 100mm (RS60)
  • cut and fit acoustic membrane on the open floor area
  • re-lay the floorboards back.

SIF Underfloor Hangers Solution

This is a very good solution for both impact and airborne noise, that allows the keeping of the original wooden floorboards. Due to the amount of sound insulation that goes under the floorboards the level is raised by 7mm.

  • lift up the existing floorboards.
  • fill the cavity between the joists with high density acoustic mineral wool 100mm (RS60)
  • cut and fit SIF Underfloor Hangers on top of the existing joists
  • cut to size and fit 19mm soundplank plasterboard between the SIF hangers
  • re-lay the floorboards back

Resilient joists hoods

These special hoods can be added to the first 2 solutions to aid with reducing the impact noise.

Karma Floor

We supply and fit Karma Floor, which can be used to replace the old floor, which also improves the level of the soundproofing, mainly impact noise.

Sound deck (various sizes)

We supply and fit Sound deck flooring, which is laid on top of the existing floor, to improve the impact noise.

Sound barrier mats solutions

We are offering the following sound barrier mats, which are fitted on top of the floorboards, underneath the existing carpet.
