Building Regulations requires that when a property is built or has its structure modified it complies with the legislations described within: Building Regulations - Document Part E.
People living in various types of domestic and public buildings must be protected from the nuisance of noise since it is regarded as an issue of health and safety. Airborne and impact noise is considered disruptive and prevents a normal flow of domestic activities such as sleep and rest and also to carry out activities in a work environment.
In order to prevent the noise, sound insulation or soundproofing is used by making use of different materials which repel or absorb noise and prevents it from being transmitted further thought the walls, floors or ceilings.
